The Big Blues Bender 2025 was more than a festival—it felt like a homecoming.
Before performing Rain, honoring 50 years after the fall of Saigon, I shared a piece of my story. I was brought to the United States as an infant during Operation Babylift, when thousands of children were airlifted out of Vietnam.
Rain is my way of honoring that journey—and the lives forever changed by it.
Performing this song at a sold-out event supporting the Blues Foundation’s HART Fund was something I’ll never forget. Afterward, veterans who were there came up to me, embraced me, and shared that they had often wondered what became of us. They remembered. They apologized. They connected.
This was more than a performance—it was connection, healing, and truth.
